Mayor’s election in Chandigarh in 2022 on January 8; AAP, BJP in the race because Congress is giving up

According to reports, BJP councilor Maheshinder Singh Sidhu will chair the body. The position of mayor of the Chandigarh municipal corporation is always reserved for women in the first and fourth years of MC House’s five-year term. Therefore, the place this time is reserved for female candidates.

In an earthquake for Congress, 10th Councilor Harpreet Kaur Babla left Congress and joined the BJP on Sunday, bringing the number of the Saffron Party to 13. Since MP Chandigarh also has a vote in the House, the BJP number has now become equal to the AAP 14. Kirron Kher is the BJP MP from the seat. The candidate needs 19 votes to be elected mayor.

Fearing cross-voting and moving to the BJP, the AAP relocated its newly elected councilors to Delhi, and Congress relocated their councilors to Jaipur. However, the AAP claims that their visit to Delhi was predetermined.

On Sunday, Babla joined the BJP along with her husband and senior congressional leader Devinder Babla.
